A note from Ms. Poteet…

The Husky Hustle was a big success! Our class raised nearly $1,500 to help our PTA purchase I Pads for our school.  Thank you for your support!

Thank you for turning up for the Harmony Harvest as well! We had a great turn out.  If you weren’t able to attend the festival, but are interested in having your child attend one of the events that I am hosting, please contact me. There is plenty of room for more children.  Again, I am auctioning a “Pretend Sleepover Party” in our classroom on Friday, December 7th from 6-8:30 pm and a Fall Fun Day on November 15th from 2:30-3:30.

Fall Conferences:  Now is the time to sign up for your conference.  At the conference, you will receive your child’s first progress report of the year.  The conference gives us time to discuss your child’s progress, and to explain how grading works in Kindergarten.  Our two conference dates are November 8th and November 13th, from 2:40 to 5:40.  Conferences run for 20 minutes.  Please call Tina Swinney at Harmony (228-2228) between 9:00 and 2:00 to request a conference time.

What are we learning?
Reading Workshop
This week we continue to focus on finding rhyming words in books and concepts of print.

Writing Workshop
We will write “Small moment” stories.  These are stories that take a rather small event, and explore the moment with descriptive language.  Because of the short week, we will not write in our Family Journals.  Family journals will return the week after the Fall Break.

Handwriting
Handwriting instruction will focus on developing fine motor skills as well as the proper formation of the following letters:  Vv, Xx, Yy, & Zz.

Word Study
This week, we will explore the letters Vv, Xx, Yy, & Zz. Ask your child about the letter sound chants for both.  We will also learn how to read and write these words that will be added to our Word Wall: her, up and do. Have your child sing you the songs for these words.

Math
This week we are working on writing our numbers 0-20 and skip counting by 10s.

Science
We are continuing our unit on plants.  We will record our observations about our corn plants.

Reminders
*Send in a healthy snack and water bottle (with a pull up spout) every day.
*Please send in a light jacket or sweater for your child to keep in their back pack. We will have outside recess, weather permitting, every day.
* Sign your child’s weekly planner every night!
* Library book due every Wednesday!

A note from Ms. Poteet…

The Husky Hustle is this Friday from 1:30-2:15.  This is a family event and the kids love to have families walk with them.  We hope you will join us! Don’t forget to send in your Husky Hustle pledges!  100% of the pledges benefit Harmony students.  We use the money to purchase a classroom set of I pads.

The Harmony Harvest is also this Friday from 6:00-8:00 pm.  Please be sure to take a look at the silent auction items when you come.  I am auctioning a “Pretend Sleepover Party” in our classroom on Friday, December 7th from 6:00-8:30 pm and a Fall Fun Day on November 15th from 2:30-3:30 pm.  The cost of the Pretend Sleepover is $25 and all students are welcome.  It will be a night filled with good treats to eat, games to play, and a movie on the big screen!  The students get to wear their pajamas, bring pillows, stuffed animals, and a sleeping bag.  I hope lots of you sign up for the fun-filled night!  The Fall Fun Day is $10 and 10 students will be able to attend.  We will meet after school, make crafts, and decorate cookies.  It will be a fun filled afternoon.

Don’t forget to send in a healthy snack every day!  Many students have been forgetting the past two weeks!
